Embarking on the journey to study abroad in Europe stands as one of the most pivotal decisions I’ve ever made. This adventure has not only exposed me to different learning methodologies but has also enriched me immensely in language proficiency, cross-cultural communication, and independent living.
Enhancements in Learning
The classroom in Europe is far more open and liberal compared to what I was accustomed to in China. Professors always encourage students to voice our opinions, fostering an environment brimming with discussions and interactions. At first, I felt overwhelmed and stayed hard to adjust to this style of learning. However, with time passing by, I was gradually equipped myself with the capacities of taking notes efficiently, engaging in critical thinking, and articulating my thoughts in class confidently.
Beyond getting ample practice in English, I also dove into Polish. From basic greetings to everyday conversations, the journey was laden with challenges. However, the warmth and kindness shown on locals’ faces when I ordered food or expressed gratitude in Polish filled me with a profound sense of connection. This linguistic bridge ignited a deeper interest in multilingualism within me.
Explorations in Culture
During my exchange, I forged friendships with people from all corners of the globe, each with backgrounds, lifestyles, and mindsets vastly different from mine. Our conversations often revolved around our respective countries, festive traditions, culinary delights. Sometimes we even tried to making dishes from each other’s hometowns. Once I introduced Chinese hotpot to them. Although some were curious and even surprised by the taste, they all thought it was very special after trying it. Such cross-cultural exchanges not only evoked my deeper sense of responsility for inheriting and spreading my own culture but also instilled in me awe for the world’s diversity.
Interactations with friends from diverse cultures also introduced me to new perspectives. For instance, European peers tend to express their thoughts directly when confronted with issues, whereas Asian counterparts might consider the bigger picture first. This disparity made me realize the unique value in every way of thinking, empowering me to share my views confidently while embracing others’ stances.
Insights towad Life
Apart from studying and commmunicating, I also seized every opportunity to explore various cities. I’ve basked in the Mediterranean breeze by the sea in Nice; mesmerized by the azure skies and waters; marveled at the fantastical allure of Gaudí’s architecture in Barcelona; and, in Florences Piazza del Michelangelo, I encountered a Chinese blogger playing the saxophone. As I listened to the familiar melody, I felt as if I were celebrating the Spring Festival in a foreign land. These experiences have deepened my love for travel, and I began to appreciate the magical connections between people even more.
This overseas exchange has bestowed upon me not just academic growth but also a profound understanding of the world. It has also made me clearer about the lifestyle I aspire to lead. This journey undoubtedly constitutes a treasure in my life, fueling my desire to continue exploring more countries, experiencing diverse cultures, and continually growing through travel.
