On the evening of November 30, the western track field of Ningbo University was illuminated with a dazzling display of lights and filled with liveliness as the grand finale of the second "You & Me: Toast to the Future" International Student Music Exchange Contest came to a thrilling close.

Seventeen international students from countries such as Morocco, Armenia, and India, alongside sixteen Chinese students, stood side by side, using musical notes as their brush and melodies as their ink, to sketch out a scroll of timeless friendship without borders. Languages from nine countries, including Mandarin, English, French, German, Japanese, and Hindi, wove through the enchanting melodies, knitting the latitudes and longitudes of friendship and erecting a bridge of hearts that transcended national boundaries, presenting spectators with an audio-visual feast that showcased the charm of cultural fusion. Over 1,100 Chinese and international students witnessed and immersed themselves in this musical extravaganza.

Serving as judges for the finals were Diane Gallardo De Tzanev, founder of Ningbo Diwa Culture Communication Co., Ltd., a professional singer and guitarist, as well as a vocal and guitar consultant; Vladimir Tzanev, co-founder of Diwa Culture Communication, a professional pianist, composer, and music consultant; FM986 music DJ Hua Hua and 1047Nice FM music DJ Jiang Nan; Yang Zhenyu, a vocal music professor at the Ningbo University School of Music. Other judges include vice president of the Ningbo Music Production Society, and artistic director of the Ningbo University Quick Enjoy Piano Orchestra; and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Hu Jia.

Noor, an international student from Pakistan, and Wu Xinrui, a Chinese student majoring in foreign languages, hosted the evening in both Chinese and English.

As the melody of "Try Everything" echoed, a chorus by all contestants unveiled the evening. With its inspiring lyrics and melody, the song conveyed a message of daring to try and not fearing failure, inspiring every Chinese and international student present. Spectators waved their glow sticks to the rhythm, resonating with the contestants on stage, and collectively experiencing the uplifting power brought by music.

The contestants from various countries were enthusiastic and sincere in their performances, with vocals ranging from lively and upbeat, full of energy, to emotionally profound and deeply moving, to gentle and smooth, storytelling in song, to passionate and exhilarating. With their heartfelt singing and stable stage presence, the contestants captivated the audience, and the venue erupted in thunderous applause. Even as the winter night grew colder, it couldn't dampen the enthusiasm of the spectators, with the atmosphere remaining lively and cheers echoing continuously.

The contest ultimately awarded two first prizes, six second prizes, and ten third prizes. Han Hui, a Chinese contestant from the School of Music, won the first prize with her unique and magnetic voice in her rendition of "I Don't Think About You." The melody of the song, under her interpretation, was melodious yet slightly melancholy, akin to a winding river, taking listeners on a journey through the ups and downs of emotions, ultimately flowing towards a shore of acceptance and tranquility.

The other first-prize winners were the Indian sister duo from the Medical Department, Hrythm, who designed a medley, "Indian Rhythm (mixed song)," that fused melodies from different regions of India. Viewers experienced the fascinating sensations brought by Indian tribal traditional music through the changes in rhythm and tempo, appreciating the unique charm of India's diversified musical heritage.

The contest also specially arranged for each Chinese student to collaborate with an international student to perform a song together. After days of rehearsal, familiar tunes such as "Talking to the Moon," "Diamonds," and "Lovely" exhibited new charm under the tacit cooperation and splendid performances of Chinese and international students.

As the contest approached its climax, all contestants sang the theme song of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, "Together for a Shared Future," in Mandarin, pushing the evening to an emotional climax.

"Breathing together, feeling together, dreaming together, loving together, sharing together, letting the world witness every moment, life warming life, strength inspiring strength, blooming..."

Interwoven with lights and applause, every voice converged into an ode to harmonious coexistence, demonstrating the shared beliefs and beautiful wishes for the future of Chinese and international students.

Diane Gallardo De Tzanev, a Colombian musician and founder of Ningbo Diwa Culture Communication Co., Ltd., commented on the contest, saying, "Thank you all from around the world for presenting such a magnificent musical feast. I absolutely loved your sense of music and stage presence. I wish all contestants future success on even bigger stages!"

Organized by Ningbo University and led by the Faculty of Foreign Languages, with joint support from the School Youth League Committee, International Office, School of Medicine, and  International School, the contest attracted nearly one hundred Chinese and international students from sixty-four teams since its inception. Over the course of more than two months, contestants not only unleashed their youth, showcased their talents, and forged friendships beyond national borders through music but also experienced the grand tapestry of diverse beauty coming together in harmony amid the melodies of the world.
